New Love
A chapter of my life has closed;
Or so for now it seems.
You tell me not to seek the past,
That you will fill my dreams.
New memories painted o'er the old
A life can rearrange,
But some old loves can't be forgot
No matter what should change.
Children forge a lifetime bond.
Old habits die so hard.
It may have been too long this time,
Again to drop my guard.
The kiss, the touch, the loving word:
Small gifts from you so dear,
Are what I need in these new times
While everything's unclear.
If easing some of lost-love's pain
Can pull me through this night.
Perhaps it can clear out my heart
And make this feel alright.
