Birds and Bees
A little flower opened wide
and gazed across the countryside
towards a handsome stand of trees
alive with busy buzzing bees
She watched the bees buzz here and there
transporting pollen through the air
from bloom to bloom they flew their loads
depositing to new abodes
The flower wondered now if she
would someday too attract a bee
with precious cargo on its wing
a thought that caused her heart to sing
And soon a bee came wandering by
The flower shyly waved a "Hi"
The bee flew down and dusted her
with clouds so soft they made her purr
But when the bee prepared to go
the little flower said "Oh no!
You've just arrived, you can't leave yet
we've only just this minute met"
The bee said "Hun, it's like this see,
I am but a lowly bee
who's only here to pollinate
now I must go, I'm running late"
For many weeks the flower wept
her petals shrivelled as she slept
until at last her cry was heard
by a hungry little bird
who took a nibble of her flesh
and said "Oh my, you're very fresh"
The flower opened up her eyes
and did she get a big surprise!
For she was round and smooth and red
with no more petals but instead
a shiny skin, and juice to boot
yes she had turned into a fruit
And deep within she felt the seed
created by her bees good deed
At once she realized that she
no longer pined for her sweet bee
Then promptly and without a word
she was eaten by the bird
Her seed fell gently to the ground
where now a fruit tree can be found
with little flowers like their Mum
awaiting their own bees to come
to pollinate then fly away
"I'm just a bee" they all will say
And so it goes with birds and bees
and flowers hanging up in trees.
