NINE WORDS FOR A THURSDAY AFTERNOON*

Nine words for a Thursday afternoon, if not necessarily The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols,
Conjure up illusions and visions of
Goodness knows what!
I'm lost for words other than to say, the Number Nine itself
Is what Bingo-callers call Doctor's Orders;
In which case, I fear and feel I may soon be diagnosed with verbal diarrhoea,

Unless I quit procrastinating or should I say mentally constipating and get on with the task in hand!

Wait for one moment though; is that the sound of an ambulance siren I hear?
God help me I say, as the men in white coats and their little yellow van draw near!
They've come to take me away! Ha-Ha!
Says me living in hope of being repatriated
Back to the Funny Farm,
Where I had my first serious romance
With a guy who likened dating me with drowning in a river,
Which made me feel I was in love
As, hitherto, I thought I was sinking in quicksand alone.

But, alas, I was soon overcome with guilt
For dragging someone down with me;
Even if, I am to be honest,
I felt an overwhelming sense of despair as I thought I was losing control
Of my bowels as well as my mind,
Whilst being momentarily surpassed by a fleeting period of continence and happiness,
Only to be outshone again with a sense of shame in knowing that,
Eventually, the truth will find me out or that the sins I may have committed in my former life will be exposed
Despite my claims that it wasn't me; it was 'im
And yes, before you ask, it had to be a guy, as there were hardly any girls around;
Three guys in fact for every girl there was to be found!
Well that's my excuse for the transgressions of my earlier life
Being committed by a guy, possibly with a guy,
And being the Almighty's excuse for sentencing me to eternal damnation in the Wilderness forever more!

* Inspired by nine male members and three female members of the Tunbridge Wells Mental Health Resource Centre's Creative Writing Group brainstorming for the first nine words which came into their heads and coming up with hope, romance, river, love, guilt, happiness, truth, sins and Wilderness with the objective of writing about either one or more of the nine words.
