As a teenager you are more susceptible to all kinds of negative addictions as well as positive ones, but to over indulge in any kind of addiction is always a bad thing. In a teens life it is a new beginning of life as well as a new world just filled of curiosity. As a parent it is your job to recognize, correct and sympathize with these addictions.
Addictions can range from video games to drugs. As stated before, both can be equal dangerous if not recognized. Teaching a teen at to balance out their addictions is vital in today's society because of the repercussions of the after affects(well with drugs there is no balance they should get immediate help).
Addictions are not necessarily a loaded gun when dealing with a teen. No matter how successful or unsuccessful we become as adults in our teen years we have all been addicted to something as a teen. For me it was action figures, comic books and video games. But as years progressed and some awesome parenting I learned balance.
Living with a addicted teen is unavoidable but essential, because if you do not recognize it your teen could grow up not knowing he/she was ever addicted. It is important for teens to know they over indulge because after all being a teen is the learning years preparing them for adult hood. To allow a teen to continue being addicted to shopping could really damage them in their later years of adult hood because they never learn to retrain from spending that last dollar on new shoes leading to some un paid bills.
As a parent this does not mean you shouldn't allow them to learn on their own. It means you should build up some indirect tactics to give them that little nudge as they learn on their own. After all self improvement is the best kind of improvement. To allow a teen to learn on their own is the best kind of parenting a parent can give, to much parenting can damage a teens growing years causing them to rebel. So as a parent you too have to learn balance and learn how to teach without directly teaching.
Show Love to your teen and show interest in their life, because after all as they get higher in their teen years it will soon be time for them to fly the coop. So don't over react to a teens addictions and try not to say anything to make them drop their heads. Always think positive and everything will be fine.
