Novel excerpts: Escape

by Melissa Sparks

A once bleeding heart communicating a silent cry of inner sadness with screeching pain of desire to be loved intensely is overwhelming. The remembrance, once filled naturally within her soul, aching deeply for that feeling to respond with desire for passion not yet revealed, becomes an intense reach far beyond her grasp into a dimension of question. Forgetting what it is like to be loved, desired, and cared for, loneliness screaming in every corner of her being tempting the flesh to swirl around in despair. An inner cry embedded so deep beyond the reality of what should transpire between a man and woman. No where to turn from entangled feelings of caged and repressed expressions. Challenging being whole when one half remains lost in the emotions of anger and hurt. Feeling the freedom near enough to touch is invisible as the intensity transforms tears that bring her to her knees. Lost beneath the frozen pond to die in spite of the warmth not so far from her reach binds a universe not yet understood. Fire building deep within needs to explode into a cluster of healthy emotions to be laid upon the one we love. Only with no acceptance of this love she finds herself disassociated with what she believes to be one with. Fall upon the emptiness that lingers to a foreign place not yet discovered. Temptations rise quickly beyond her control elevating to destruction of herself. Society as she knows it today creates a new breed of reality.

Driving down a blackened asphalt winding road to an exciting twist of fate with no regards to what waits in the darkness of realities finest. Misting rain appears sporadic as the clouds crack with booming anger . The winds raging restlessly in the face of danger. The road seemed long. The wind whistled through the window. It was a long, tiring drive to her new life. Brielle's taste in music left much to be desired at times in her younger years. The radio pounding the car till it vibrated with a vengeance coupled in her mind. Brielle Teagan, a petite freckled face woman aged with inner beauty. She grew up in a world of deceit and destruction. In her mind she was hopefully going to prevail. Reminiscing about all the mistakes she made. How did she lose her faith? Where was the fire raging inside? She has no ideal what she is up against. She just knows she feels a sense of freedom. Long awaited calmness that was long overdue. Emptiness filled her soul. She could not bare to be alone and alone she was. Reaching for her cell phone sitting in the passenger seat she decided not to answer. Total silence is what she needed to clear her mind.

Catching her breath she was exhausted. She had been driving for hours. Headed to a place of solitude. A beautiful home with stone walls surrounding the lot. A lake she could fish with no disruption. Her friend Tarrin Grapple offered for her to stay there until she could get a job and her own place. It was in a small friendly town. There she was hopeful to start a new beginning leaving her past behind. It would not be long until she arrived to her destination. She was looking forward to a nice long hot bubble bath in that garden tub she so longed for. Her body ached from the tension she was trying to release. The bed would swallow her up and take her to a fairy tale while she slept. Snapping into reality she reaches in the bag for her thermos to sip on the few ounces of cold coffee left in the bottom. She had drank so much her bladder ached. She came up the road to the last turn before she was to arrive. Thankful she made it safely she sped up to get to the gate. She was overwhelmed with excitement. She jumped quickly out of the car. A used Saturn she had paid cash for a few years back. Still running as though it knew she depended on it. With the key gripped in her hand she fiddled with the lock till it opened. She ran back to her car and raced up the long winding drive.

It was lit up with lights so bright. She could vaguely see the lake that surrounded the house on four acres. Opening the trunk she took only one bag for the night. The others she would get in the morning after she was well rested. Entering the house her hand fumbled for the light. She sat her bag down and let out a big sigh. She made it. She could now reflect on her life and make plans to get her life tied up in a tiny little box. The house was absolutely gorgeous. A mixture of contemporary furnishings that defined the cottage like appearance. The house must have been at least twenty eight hundred square feet of pure heaven. She rushed up the stairs to the bedroom and into the bathroom. The decor was so soothing with warm tones. She ran the water till steam filled the air. Bubbles floated carelessly. Sinking down into the tub she said out loud, I'm free, I'm free. A smile on her face that would light up any room. After twenty minutes or so she stepped out onto the cold ceramic floor and took in the feeling of relief. Off to bed snuggled in. Her bare skin touching the coolness of the silk sheets, she closes her eyes and drifts to sleep with no regrets.

Dark and dreary trees swayed wickedly in the deep foggy wilderness of the forest. She ran breathless, blood dripping from her eyes. Her body felt twisted and mangled, the numbness penetrated throughout. Fear traveled and contained in her heart beating fast and hard. Trying to scream the sound of her voice trapped inside her gut. The world seemed to orbit around her. Knowing she had to escape the death that was awaiting her. Falling into the freezing water something pierced her ribs. She was sweating not able to breath when her eyes opened. That same dream haunted her. Looking around she was fascinated by the glow of light shining through the shear burgundy drapes hanging from the window. The night seemed to pass by quickly. Turning, looking at the clock placed on the nightstand, it ticked softly. Already seven thirty two, she graciously drug her body out of bed and headed downstairs to the coffee pot.
