Is television worth watching?

Is television worth watching? Well that depends upon your individual circumstances. Television provides two services. Entertainment and information. As such it is a resource for both things, but whether you require it is up to your individual situation.

Consider a businessperson in their twenties, fresh from a promotion from their boss who is eager to work hard, and, being valued highly by the company, wishes to spend much of his or her time devoted to work. There is little time for watching television for such an individual besides night time, and we all need a good night's sleep.

A farmer has little time to watch television either, as he or she has work to do throughout the day in most cases and as such watching television at any time would be a hazard, as if they were to watch it at night they would lose sleep and wake up later in the morning, thus unprepared for such tasks as milking the dairy producing cows.

However if you are a woman who does not work and stays at home all day, then you, what with labor saving devices and such things, have plenty of time to watch Oprah or Days or Our Lives or what have you. Also if you are a child of school age you have before and after school programs. The unemployed have plenty of spare time, as do the elderly retired people. And of course we have the weekends as well for most people. Those working night shifts have the day off, and those with alarm clocks can watch television at night, not afraid of waking too late to get to work in time and getting fired.

As such it all depends on ones individual circumstances as to whether watching television is worth doing. For those with spare time where they have nothing better to do (and believe me ninety percent of the time you do have something better to do and are procrastinating or being lazy) then it depends upon what television may offer them. I used to watch television but in my opinion it has gone downhill of late, so do not any more.

Television like most things has gone downhill these days, and my generation of young teenage people live in a very terrible time of decadence, procrastination, laziness, stupidity and weakness unlike in the much better days of our grandparents.

Television is a resource for entertainment and information. The news is informative (and unfortunately entertaining too in many cases) whereas a game show is entertaining (though unfortunately often informative), and there are shows that balance both like lifestyle shows and documentaries. Television is an important part of growing up whether we wish it to be or not, as it creates social cohesiveness between those who view it. Who does not remember discussing the latest episode of our favorite cartoon at school with our chums? Well, me, but then again I was mostly home schooled so I do not count.

Therefore television is a resource, but certainly in many cases an unecessary one, and these days terribly decadent and counter upstanding of nature.
