On the night of Halloween and throughout the month of October, there are several events residents and visitors can enjoy. Most of which are for teens and adults but there are a few events focused toward families with young children.
Just eighteen miles east of Birmingham is the largest Halloween event in the Southeast. Located at 1104 Parkway Drive, it is a mile long stretch of horror movie madness. What would happen if you were in a horror movie? How would you actually react? Well, here is your chance to find out. They will have guest appearances by Derek Meres who played Jason in the Friday the 13th movies, Tony Todd who played in Candyman, Chris Carnel who played the miner in My Bloody Valentine 2009, and others. Listed one of the top 100 most haunted places in the United States, it is no surprise that it would be host to a haunted house each October. This event is where paranormal activity meets an amusement park setting. Some of the attractions includes a 3D maze in frightvision, a water tower junkyard, a swamp room, a black hole, and more. There is even a zombie attack, bug room, a hillbilly attack, and a sewer room. Tickets are $15 a person and includes admission to the Trail and Roadkill Cafe. Groups of thirteen people or more only have to pay $12 per person.
Are you looking for an alternative to trick-or-treating? Have the whole family dress up in costumes this Halloween and head out to the Birmingham Zoo each weekend in October. This Halloween event is October 31 and starts at 5:00 pm and is packed full of fun until 9:00 pm. Your family can ride the Ghastly Carousel or even the Grave Yard Express. Enjoy live performances, Goul Skool, a funhouse, and a trick-or-treat ghost town. Even the animals get in the Halloween spirit with special animal shows and alien reptiles that are out of this world! Admission into Boo at the Zoo is $7.00 per person. This is for members and non-members.
Haunted Fairyland at Tannehill
Since 1991, Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park has hosted a family-oriented event each year on Halloween. From 11:00am to 3:00pm, you will find train rides, pony rides, magicians, as well as games and activities for children of all ages.
