Poetry: Overcoming hardship

by Jane Prinsep

Created on: October 07, 2009

I am moving on to a new phase in life
After a few too many years of nightmarish strife
Good times are ahead; it's time for fresh hope
Time to have fun, relax, and not just to "cope"

Thank you so much, my family and my friends
You know who you are and on me you can depend
I sit here now and I start to feel free
It's amazing how good a glass of wine can be

I'm soon off to bed, as tomorrow must be faced
But without all the "dead wood" my happiness is based
On choices I've made, best for me, best for others
Priorities changed when I became a mother

And I learned at each moment, we all have a choice
When we feel all is lost, we must all find a voice
Even if the only words uttered are "help me?!"
A sound such as this is far more healthy

Than silence, isolation, a lonely kind of hell
Those darkest times I know only too well
So now, I am more than determined to make good
To render and repair facets still misunderstood

I'll sleep tonight with new focus ahead
I'll sleep tonight, as soon as I fall into bed
Dreams are awaiting me...
Life is awaiting me...
