Live rock concerts: Recommendations and guidelines

Created on: October 07, 2009

When going to see a live rock concert, there are a number of things to bear in mind for before the show, during and after. There is much more to a rock concert than just music and performance, as any good band out there will get a crowd involved and one should be prepared for what to expect. Unlike some genres of music, a rock concert can be a raucous and sometimes dangerous experience. Here are a few things to help make the event fun, and hopefully memorable.

Always arrive early. Depending on the venue, and time of year, tailgating can be an enjoyable part of pre-concert activities. Some people relax with a few choice beverages, or other personal indulgences, while listening to music, usually from the bands they're going to see. Other people even go so far as to break out the portable grill and have a bite to eat before going into the show. All depending on the venue, these things are usually tolerated if kept under relative control. Some venues do not abide by such things, and you should find out before expecting to partake.

As far as concert attire goes, wear something comfortable. The obvious choice would be a t-shirt of the band you're going to see, many people do this. Do not be that person! True fans don't feel the need to display their loyalty on their chest, and if you're going to see a band that's been around for a while, that 'vintage' shirt you just picked up at the mall will have you looking like quite the fool among the true fans. Stick with what you're comfortable in, and if you need to wear a band shirt, wear one of a familiar band, not one you're going to see. Concerts will be very hot, there are a ton of sweaty people crammed into a small space, be prepared for that. Take only what you need with you inside. Identification, especially if you plan on consuming alcohol, your car keys, money and a cell phone if you're not afraid of dropping or losing it! No weapons of any kind are permitted, even pocket knives, and there's usually a pat-down when you enter.

One of the best parts of going to a rock concert is that you can feel the music! It's loud, insanely loud, and you can feel it pulse through your body. The bass drum will pound in your chest and your ears will be assaulted. This is a huge part of the event and if the sound is mixed right, it won't just sound like a wall of noise.

Some of the best live bands still active today are; Slipknot, Motley Crue, KISS and GWAR. These are bands that don't just play music, they put on a show. Their
