Online writing has a major advantage over many business enterprises, because all you need to get started is access to a computer with an Internet connection. There are few extra costs involved, and plenty of profit to be made from online writing. You will need to be an enthusiastic and productive writer, and should have some practical experience of writing effective web content.
If you want to turn online writing into a profitable business, you need to be active in promoting, networking and research, in addition to the time and effort that goes into your writing. With good writing skills, and some effective online marketing, it is possible to create multiple sources of writing income:
- Submit articles and reviews to writing sites that make upfront payment, and to sites that share advertising revenue.
- Sell original articles on content directories where clients can purchase exclusive articles for web content.
- Write posts for your own monetized blogs, or creating content for your own profitable websites.
- Write marketing articles to promote your own business and getting paid to write traffic generating articles for clients.
- Sign up at genuine freelance job sites to find job offers and opportunities to bid on writing projects.
- Publish your own ebooks and manuals to sell online or ghostwrite guides and ebooks for your business clients.
You might need to develop new skills and gain some specialist knowledge to be successful in the business of online writing and to ensure your online writing enterprise is profitable:
* Provide a writing service that meets the exact requirements of your clients.
Be prepared to stick to any guidelines you are given, and adapt your writing style to meet the requirements of each website where you submit your work.
* Optimize all your articles, reviews and blog posts so that search engine spiders can index them.
If your writing does not show up in many relevant search results and you will not be able to sell effective web content or make money from advertising revenue. It is not difficult to learn about search engine optimizatin (SEO) and keyword density. You should do some keyword research and use free online tools to help you find the best performing keywords.
* Present your writing so Internet users can find information quickly.
Online writing needs to be concise and precise. Few people want to read pages of a lengthy articles online, and solid blocks of text are difficult to read. Online articles require short paragraphs with plenty of space between points. Subheadings and bullets also makes text easier to read on a screen.
* Write to a good standard of English that is easy to understand.
Unless you are asked to write specifically for a local site or a specific audience, be sure that what you write is inclusive to people from different cultures around the world.
With the right approach, and a willingness to work hard, there are many opportunities to make more money from online writing. Submit your articles at paid-to-write sites and write for business clients. Make money with your own blog and write online marketing articles. Understand clearly the difference between writing web content and writing for print publications, and all your online writing activities can be turned into a highly profitable business.
