What do you lie about?

"I don't lie about anything. I'm the most honest person I know." Well, if you hear that, turn and run as fast as you can. The question should be, not what do lie about, but when do you lie. Do you lie at work or at home. When you are among friends or to strangers.

The truth should be told at all times, but sometimes the truth can hurt. So a little lie can soften the hurt a bit. I never lie at work because that can come back to haunt you. If a question is asked about something, chances are the answer is already known. A lie could make the difference in whether you get another pay check or be trusted by your peers.

I never "lie" to my girlfriend, because I must maintain some credibility. Now, I have been accused of stretching it a bit or making a half truth. A half truth is telling half of what you think about something or half answering a question. An example: Someone ask how you like their new car and tell you what they paid. You answer, "Man, the car looks really cool, I like it. The price sounds fair." The rest of the truth would be, "Man you got hosed on the price."

I try not lie at all. I'm human, it's tough. I will expand a truth a bit to save someones feelings and then explain why later, if I have to do so. My dad always said "A lie will only grow, until you forget which end you planted first. And the truth will be known, to all."
