The Old Testament is filled with rich traditions of wisdom. People thirst for divine answers to the questions in life that all of us want answered. People want to make sense of their daily lives and understand the reason for their existence. They search for God's advice on how to live their lives and be successful. When they learn of God and his magnificence, they begin to fear him. This fear, or reverence, is the beginning of wisdom. Psalms 111:10. Being conscious of the awe-inspiring power and majesty of the Lord brings fear to our souls because we are living in his shadow. All people are sinful by nature, and God warns us about our future if we do not change our ways. So, we delve into the Bible in an attempt to learn as much about our Father in Heaven as we can. When we desire to know about God and search for his ways, we begin our journey to wisdom.
When we learn about God and His glory, the fear we experience is only the first step. Imagine the way a servant fears his master. Many people fear the Lord the way a child fears his parents. This type of fear is natural, and it triggers our desire to reach out to the Lord in prayer and study the Bible so we can learn what the Lord expects from us. Similar to a babe, we crave pure spiritual milk that will feed our thirsty soul. 1 Peter 2: 1-3. Peter tells us that we must start at the beginning and grow up in our salvation, now that we have tasted the Lord's greatness. We cannot let ourselves stray from the Word of God, or starve ourselves from this divine knowledge because it will lead us down the path to wisdom.
Everyone experiences trials and tribulations as they go about their lives. We cry out to God, and ask Him what we should do. We want his guidance, or spiritual wisdom so can know the correct way to handle our lives. 1 Kings 3: 11-13 tells us to ask God for wisdom, and he will be glad to give it to us. God appeared to Solomon and asked him what he wanted from God. Solomon asked God for wisdom so he could be a great leader among his people. This pleased God greatly because, instead of asking for riches and other worldly things, Solomon asked Him for wisdom. God told Solomon He would give him much wisdom, riches, and glory among his people.
Making the Lord your top priority and asking Him what He wants you to do is a very wise stand to take. In any situation you face in life, reach out to the Lord in prayer and ask Him for the wisdom you need to handle whatever comes your way. If God is first in your
