How to cope with the holidays after a breakup

You will find the holiday a lot easier to cope with if you tell yourself it is just another week, nothing special, and do whatever you would have done or want to do. If you are hurting and feel sad, you may choose to just stay indoors and lick your wounds. If you prefer to see your friends and pour your heart out to them then do so, but do not feel forced or obliged to be happy and carefree.

Exactly how YOU deal with your breakup and the holiday will depend on your star sign. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) are quite pragmatic and enjoy their luxuries. They are foodies who enjoy good wine, company, music and beautiful things but are quite happy on their own. It would take a lot to get them to be too miserable to enjoy the holidays. But very sensitive signs, air signs (Aquarius, Libra, Gemini)are more likely to reflect, brood, and hurt, finding it difficult to look on the bright side and move on. Aries, Sagittarius and Leo are the fire signs. These are assertive and sometimes aggressive people who are full of confidence about themselves and their life. But if someone hurts them it really hurts, as well as denting their ego. They like company, so it would be a good idea to make sure they have visitors or go out and get together with loved ones. The water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) can be loners and quite happy with their own company, and often prefer it. They can be intellectual and enjoy studying and reading. They are well-advised to be selective in the company they seek. They do not need advice about their relationships, they can work this out for themselves, but support would be appreciated. Whichever sign you are, treat yourself with kindness. This is an emotional time and you need to avoid tricky or hurtful situations as much as you can.

Remember that this holiday is just the first of many. You are only human and still hurting. It might be best for you to avoid groups of friends, parties, and meets until you feel better able to cope with them and enjoy them. Perhaps it is best to pretend this holiday does not exist, just let it go over your head and ignore it. Just once will not hurt and you have a good reason. Why feel worse than you already do? If it is Christmas and you are expected to buy presents and send cards, then keep it down to the bare minimum. Those who care about you will understand. They are the only people that matter. You can always have your own Christmas (or whatever holiday it is) later on when you are feeling better and
