Chihuahuas are such sweet, alert, loving little dogs. They are easy to look after as they do not need much exercise, and great to cuddle up to on your lap. You will have your Chihuahua for approximately 14 years so you have to be sure that the name you pick for it is suitable and you will not tire of it. I have had a lot of Chihuahuas and find that names that reflect the size of the dog are best. Something like Butch, Hannibal, Boxer are just not appropriate because you imagine a much bigger dog with a totally different personality!
I am assuming that you only have one Chihuahua. If you have two then it is a good idea to give them names that pair up. If you have a boy and girl together then it would be a great idea to call them names that reflect they are a pair. Spend some time with your new pet and friend, getting to size up its personality. Is it mischievous? Feisty? Alert and lively? Playful? Shy? Noisy? Take all of this into account when choosing its name. Or you might decide to name your Chihuahua according to its colouring and markings. Lots of people name their dog Patch, Spotty and similar names because of this.
It is always a good idea to make sure that your dog's name is short, just one or two syllables. And if you have other dogs make sure their names are not at all similar. That way if you call to your pet they are clear which one you are calling.
If you have a boy Tiny Tim (perhaps shortened to Tim) would be a good name.
You might want to name a girl according to the month she was born or the month she became your pet. June, July, April and May all make good girl's name and reflect its tiny size.
Shrimp is a great name for a tiny Chihuahua. So is Titch, Baby, Tiny, Daisy, Lily and Poppy. If it is a girl and you prefer to use a girl's name stick to something which sounds dainty, such as Belle, Gloria, Jessica, Tina, Charlotte or Pearl.
Then you have the SILLY names such as Kissy, which are quite cute for a small feminine girl and totally wrong for a boy.
For a pair of Chihuahuas how about Lucy and Desi?
Whatever names you choose you will have a wonderful friend for a very long time.
