How to tell if a boy likes you

by Lauren Ullmann

Created on: October 06, 2009

When the article says "boys", I'm assuming high-school aged boys. As a sister to one and friends with many, I consider myself an expert in this field. My guy friends ask me a lot about what girls like and how to act around them. I can examine their body language and choice of words to see if they really like a girl.

1. They put in the extra effort to talk to you.

Come on, when that cutie in Spanish class asked you about what the homework was for that night or even commented on the weather to you, you felt nice inside! Guys that have a thing for you will do this excessively, especially of you sit near him. (Now if it is your best guy friend, you never can really tell.) They might say "hi" in the hallway or smile. That's a good sign! They will also attempt to flirt a little also (sometimes very badly, but give them credit for trying.) Some guys do this way to much! In addition, if he doesn't put in the effort to say a "What's up? you go for it. It won't kill you!

2. He texts you, a lot.

Typical in high school! They want to talk to you. They are trying to get your attention. When they text you frequently, it means that you are on their mind a lot, which is a good thing if you like him also. Again, if you have the crush, text him saying "What's up?" It gets easier every time you do it.

3. He stands next to you at football games.

I love when guys do this! They breakaway from all their friends to come to you. That is a winner in my book. I hope that you know a little bit about football. If you know football, they will love you. Be school-spirited with him, do some cheers. This can show the fun side of you.

If you like the guy that flirts with you, I would flirt back with him, text him, or talk to him. He will keep doing it if you will. If you don't like the guy (which has happened many times to me), don't blow them off, I just tone down the level that I talk to him. I do not like to be upfront and say "I don't like you." I think it's too harsh. If you do it nice and easy, maybe he will get the picture.
