Poetry: Disappointment

by Bethany Kyler

Created on: October 06, 2009

STILL LIFE

There is a wall of brick and stone, impervious, unending.

There is a haunted, angry soul, silent, closed, unbending.

There is a strait-coat binding fast to every dream and hope,

And there is Disappointment's child, who clings a fraying rope.

There is a coldness threatening a struggling seed that's growing,

There is Rejection's steadfast wind, subtle and ongoing.

But there's a life adjusting to a sliver of a portion:

There is a spouse, a child, a home, a love without distortion.

There is a quiet victory, a story never shared;

For there is little to be gained from those who lightly cared.

There are souls who live and breathe, remote and without voice,

There are some who cannot speak, and some are mute by choice.

There are distant, harmless blurs unseeing eyes may borrow,

There is a brutal, focused lens that shows a world of sorrow.

But there is One who rescues us from misery and strife,

And helps us climb back up to that more sunny side of life;

There is One who reaches down from heaven out of sight;

There is One who pulls us from deep water, into light.
