Bridal showers have been known to be frivolous girl parties. Generally, these events are associated with excessive amounts of rich food, ear deafening giggles, and silly games. Sorry, if I've burst any bubbles, or offended anyone, but it's the truth. You'll have to agree that the time has come for bridal showers to reach a higher level. Now, think green and throw a green shower, one that will grow memories for years to come.
There are loads of options for giving a green bridal shower. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Use your instincts, and keep the bride's preferences in mind to make the best choices.
Invitations:
Green invitations - Readily available and acceptable in all forms of media.
Paper - Be sure to use recycled paper, newspaper, wrapping paper or other reused medium for mailing or hand distribution.
Post Cards - Made from recycled paper will save materials and postal cost.
Electronic - Create a website for the green bridal shower. From invitations, RSVP, Directions, Thanks, it's a great organizational and informational tool.
Theme/Suggestions for Gifts:
Typically a bridal shower geared toward a theme, perhaps a kitchen shower, bed or bath shower and so on. The green shower can be made special by the type of gifts requested.
Green can mean a variety of things. Begin with how the gifts should be prepared. Keep the theme co-ordinated by requesting that the guests wrap the gifts with material that can be re-used.
Garden Gifts for herb gardens, outdoors, or inside plants, make for gifts that live on for the bride and groom.
Memory Gifts are those special things for the bride that come with a memory story from the guest. It may be an serving spoon, a mirror, a photo in a used frame, maybe a book, whatever it is, it comes with a story. Old items make new gifts and memories last forever.
Bamboo Products are very popular as fabrics and other materials for use in green kitchens, baths, and as storage essentials. Create a list of bamboo products as a registry for the shower and to eliminate duplications.
Decor and Serving Tips:
Co-ordinate the decorations for the green bridal shower in keeping with the theme.
Eliminate or avoid using any plastic items that are not recycled.
Cover tables in kraft paper, or natural burlap, cover with ivy or vines from your area. Use twine in place of ribbons. Put bamboo stalks in vases and use bamboo poses in your decor. Just bring the outside in, during any season.
Use dried lavender in vases to create a soothing atmosphere.
