The television programs of the twenty first century are radically different from the beginning of its era. In the beginning, there were programs that promoted the values of family, friendship, loyalty, and good taste. The artists that starred in the television programs were professional artists who started their career in the same way that most professionals did, they worked their way to the top on the basis of talent.
At the present time, television with the exception of the sports and alternative channels has converted into a sewage of people with no talent, violent brawls, gossip columnists who talk about which couple are in love and which ones are divorced. There are even so called sexologists in programs who give advice such as telling a woman: "If your husband does not give you sex, he is either with a mistress, gay, or weird and should be dumped". In other words, the television of present day America has given in to stereotypes about race, religion, creed, and life.
We are also witness to so called stars who are famous for being famous, or because they have slept with someone famous. Our society has also become a society where foul language, violence, lack of respect, and family breakdown is tolerated and even encouraged. It is seen in soap operas, talk shows, and even news stories. It appears that the society that exists in the United States of America is enthralled with the violence and pornography.
Who could ever forget programs such as "Desperate Housewives" in which there were housewives who wanted sex and invite a plumber to "fix the pipes" which is not the pipes in a kitchen sink? What about the insults in the Jerry Springer show or the violence that is seen in the local news channel? While not excusing the people who destroyed innocent lives during the 11th of September 2001, we should ask the question if our violent programs contributed to 9/11? The possibility exists since there are Arab countries that have US Television and it would not be a surprise that the Arabs imitated mediocre art.
The art of Reality TV is not art, it is in bad taste. The people who participate are either those who want to be in television at the price of losing their dignity or never had dignity to begin with. Reality TV is not even real with writers writing the scripts and rehearsing what should be real or not.
In the political arena, the conglomerates of television in the America in collaboration with the politicians have done a lot to forment hatred and warfare amongst the people of America with their highly charged insults against each other in the news. At the same time, the conglomerates in collaboration with the governing elite in the United States of America favor the Republicans and Democrats while marginalizing the Libertarians and Greens. At the same time, the television stations in the United States of America preach that they are free and reliable when they are not.
If the underwriter wants entertainment and news, he will listen to alternative stations within the USA or abroad. If he wants entertainment and news in poor taste, a visit to the conglomerates and mainstream TV in America would suffice.
