What are your favorite movie quotes of all time

by James Hamel

Pop culture is a curious thing. And the heart and soul of pop culture comes from the world of film as evidenced by our national obsession with movie stars. While musicians and TV stars get their fair share of tabloid coverage it is the Brad and Angelinas of the world that we are far more interested in.

But even beyond that there are just some lines from movies that stick in your head like the catchiest pop tune. Funny, sad, dramatic or ironic-many times these lines give us a common ground in a conversation or social situations. Here are some obscure, funny, scary and somewhat obscene comments from the universe of film.

Yes! Live! Life's a Banquet and Most Poor Suckers are Starving to Death!: (Auntie Mame)

Auntie Mame was quite the revolutionary female character for her time. She was a boozing, man-chasing party girl who in turn came to absolutely adore her young nephew that came under her cared after his parents died. This Rosalind Russell classic is so overloaded with funny lines it is nearly sacrilegious to pick only one. If you haven't seen it this is a must-rent.

It Rubs the Lotion on Its Skin or Else it Gets the Hose Again: (The Silence of the Lambs)

If you ever want to get a bad blind date to leave your house just say this to them. After that they probably won't be calling you again. This is without question the creepiest line ever uttered in a movie.

I Used to Love Doggie Chow Too!: (Showgirls)

The worst film of all time is just chock full of nonsensical nuggets like this. Don't all girlfriends talk about the days when they used to eat puppy chow when they are having lunch? This line was obviously written by a man who had never seen, talked to or been within 50 feet of an actual woman. Probably because of multiple restraining orders.

Please Come Quickly. I've Just Killed an Intruder.: (Sleeping With the Enemy)

Any mediocre film can easily be fixed by having a good ending and Sleeping with the Enemy is a textbook case in point. While this film started out as a forgettable woman in peril movie it developed into a woman shoots her abusive husband dead movie.

The beauty of this line is that as the character played by Julia Roberts does something that we would never expect of Julia Roberts the mega-famous film star. What did she do? She kicked some serious booty. And do you want to know the best part about this line? When she reported to 911 that she had killed an intruder her husband was still alive. It was only after she hung up the phone
