Reality TV. Wow, how far we have come. Does anyone really believe reality TV? I know that what has become America's reality certainly is not real. For example, ladies how many of you housewives can go buy yourself a $60,000.00 designer hand bag for your birthday and then declare "because of the economy, I scaled down this year."? Oh yeah, that's real. I am lucky if I can score a cake for my birthday.
I am guilty. I do find those shows interesting, unbelievable, but interesting. There is a fantasy quality to it. Real housewives everywhere who are stuck in a "real" reality show in mundane housewife land, tune into the unrealistic realities of the Housewives of Orange County, New York, and Atlanta to see how the other half lives. I love the fights these women have about fashion and parties. I laugh because I am sitting in my sweat pants watching these wonders unfold. I find myself actually taking sides? The reality is I am worried about how the bills are going to get paid; not who's wearing what and who's gonna be there. A party at my house involves funny hates and a childish theme; not martinis and Prada.
I enjoy the unreality of reality TV. The many moods of Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin. The fights, the kids, the blame game. I don't watch the show anymore, well because I don't have too, it's too boring now. The tabloids are more interesting. I guess we all crave that fame and therefore we tune in. Waiting for the next big turn in the reality TV saga.
I do draw the line at the Soap Operas geared toward teenagers. O.M.G. as my daughter would declare to my "squareness" but have you seen this trash? Homosexuality, premarital sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Every HOUSEWIFE"S worst nightmare. I am sickened every time I see it. The irony of the content of these crap shows is obvious when the commercials on the kid's channel are advertising abstinence and talking to your parents about drugs and sex. The channel takes the award for sending these kids mixed signals while making a million dollars.
When watching television I just take it for what it is worth, entertainment. If there is anything to learn from the personalities that are considered the stars of reality TV, it would have to be, in my case, what not to do television. I learn on those days that I tune in to the craziness and humor of those flicks that it is okay to be unreal to the reality TV standard. I like not being normal. Or am I normal? I don't know any more!
