Reflections: Cleaning up after dogs when you don't own one

Is there anything more disgusting than stepping in dog poop in your own yard when you don't own a dog? Okay, sure there are worse things but this is an annoyance that some of us deal with on a daily basis. And the thing is, maybe we don't own a dog because we don't want to pick up any dog's poop!

It truly amazes me that people are so irresponsible and rude. If you have a dog part of your job is to pick up its poop. If you want to leave the dog poop in your own yard, fine. That's disgusting but it's your yard. So whatever works for you but for the love of God, please pick up after your dog in someone else's area. If you don't want to pick it up, what makes you think anyone else does?

Pets are great. They provide companionship and make us laugh. They offer up unconditional love in a way that humans usually don't. There are a lot of wonderful things about owning a pet but what some people forget is along with all the good times there are also disgusting aspects of owning a pet. Dog poop is just one of them. Dogs do a lot of gross things. But most of them don't infringe on other people.

There are many ways to make this job easier. Get those bags that are scented! Then, when you pick it up it's not so awful. There are also these cute little bag holders that attach to your dog's leash. They can hold about three small plastic bags. It's a handy little invention! Try it!

There really isn't any excuse not to clean up after your dog. How would you feel if someone let their animals crap in your yard and they left it there? I can tell you, you'd hate it. Because it's rude and uncaring behavior. It can't be stressed enough that dogs are at times are nasty. They make ghastly messes and their owners need to clean them up whether it's in said owners living room or my yard!

And beware, there are people around like my dear departed Dad, who just might take that poop and leave it on your doorstep! And in his younger days, he might have put it in a paper bag, set it on fire and then, rang your doorbell and run away. Letting your dog crap in other people's yard and not cleaning up after it could really start some bad blood between your neighbors. Think about it next time Fluffy is going in my yard. You never know what I might do with it.

I am, in many ways, my father's daughter!
