Every year, more American tourists and vacationers are becoming aware of a unique travel destination that provides a memorable experience like no other, and the location is in Detroit, Michigan. A visitor to
Detroit Michigan usually leaves with a renewed respect for the culture and ingenuity of the city, and it's people who made it great.
Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, Detroit has a population of over 4.4 million people in the metropolitan area, many of it's residents employed in the auto industry and the related supply chain. With the decline of auto industry related jobs in the last decade, new employment has been provided via legalized gambling and two casino's - The MGM Grand Detroit and The Motor City Casino-Hotel.
The MGM Grand Detroit has over 90 table games and 4,000 slot and poker machines, and is located in downtown Detroit, only 20 minutes from the Detroit Metro Airport. It offers three signature restaurants, outstanding professional entertainment and a number of money saving hotel-stay packages. The Motor City Casino-Hotel features 400 guest rooms and 33 suites, and amenities like 24 hour in-room dining and laundry service and even safes. Nightly world class entertainment punctuated by several fine dining opportunities make the Motor City Casino-Hotel a relaxing stay.
For the sports minded, Detroit offers a variety of outdoor activities from bicycling to fishing and sailing on Lake Michigan. Professional sports teams such as The Detroit Tigers in MLB, The Detroit Pistons in the NBA, The Detroit Lions in the NFL, and The Detroit Red Wings in the NHL enable visitors to view the best in athletics. The Michigan International Speedway features Professional Indy Car Racing at its best, while the annual Detroit Grand Prix is hugely popular. A must see for any visitor to Detroit is a drive along famed Woodward Avenue. Located there are the Detroit Historical Society, Cranbrook Art Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit. Cultural festivals held annually are the Arab International Festival, African World Festival, Festival of India, and the Hamtramck Polish Festival. Also, the Michigan State Fair is hosted by Detroit yearly in August and September.
A trip to Detroit offers something for everyone, is family friendly and most affordable. Don't forget to check out the tours offered by automobile companies, they are very educational and informative and usually loved by children.
