The main goal of writing is to make an impact on the reader. Writers are constantly looking for ways to improve their craft and increase their level of impact. There are some incredible simple ways that writers can develop a greater impact with every piece they write.

Remember to connect with the reader

The primary of each piece of writing is to make a connection with the reader. If writers cannot or do not make connection with the reader, any further effort is fruitless. Connecting with the readership takes some effort but is relatively simple to accomplish.

Write the body first

Writing the body first allows the writer to create the direction and focus of the article. Start by creating a base outline of points that need to be made by the article. Doing this allows the writer to develop both the introduction and the conclusion from information already contained in the article. A good introduction acts like a map and gives the reader direction for the rest of the article. The introduction should tell the reader where the article is headed.

Create an effective opening line and lead

One of the most important aspects of an article is the opening line and the lead article. Develop an opening line that catches the reader and communicates the basic direction of the article. The opening line may simply restate the title, it may take the form of a question or make a powerful statement. The opening line is the hook that catches the reader and makes them want to continue reading.

Draw a practical conclusion

The goal of the writer is to communicate something of value to the reader that might assist them to either follow advice or help them improve in some way. The conclusion can tie all of the advice or direction of the article together. The conclusion should not introduce new information but instead should draw the reader through things already stated in the article.

Develop some action steps or simple advice

One aspect that most readers want to see is practical advice or actions steps that will help them in some way. Developing practical steps or actions to follow will allow the reader to act on the information contained in the article.

Write a powerful title

One key to writing with greater impact is to craft good titles. A good title goes a long way to communicating with the reader. The title of an article or book needs to make an almost instant connection with readers. The title of the article should draw the reader into actually reading the piece.

Creating impact in writing can happen with a little work and some effective methods. Impact flows out of making connection with the readers, creating powerful titles and leading paragraphs, assisting with practical advice and drawing the articles to strong conclusions.
