"I like being by the golf course." says John Blank who recently moved to the Nashville area from St. Louis. In fact, Nashboro Village Golf Course has some of the more reasonable greens fees in Nashville while also boasting about the fun-yet challenging layout and "true" bentgrass greens (www.nashborogolf.com).
Galumphing around the perimeter of the lake in a quaint little community park, located at the epicenter of Nashboro Village, is a high-spirited Rocky, a Labrador- mix puppy that John picked up at the Humane Society. Nestled between the golf course fairways, the park is pet-friendly and it is also common to see people of all ages fishing, picnicking, or just capturing a zen-moment after a tough day at work.
First hand experience tells me that Nashboro Village, in south Nashville and sandwiched between the Antioch and Donelson areas, is not only conveniently located, but is also rampant with beautiful tree lined promenades and avenues. A combination of rental apartments, condos, and town homes provide shelter to the budget conscious, as well as the most style discerning tenant.
An inquisitive nature may lead you to find one of the several grotto-like areas where gentle streams caress the natural limestone foundations. An equally vivid imagination will likely have you wondering about the life and times of the early residents who lived in the Gran Dale mansion. Mental images of horse and buggy travel, wide expanses, and a true southern hospitality seem real enough that they could be just around the next cluster of mighty oak and elm trees.
Moved from its original location to accommodate the Nashboro Village Shopping Plaza, the vacant mansion now sits atop rising ground to the rear of the Kroger, as you follow the curve of Nashboro Boulevard into the heart of Nashboro Village.
Walkers, and runners alike, enjoy the ample sidewalks and trails throughout Nashboro Village. On the more weather temperate days, you will see residents casually trekking to the shopping plaza that stands at one of the entrances to the neighborhood. Every necessity and convenience, including churches, chain restaurants and mom & pops, Starbucks, and a variety of retailers exist in close proximity to the area.
Friendly people, rolling fairways, and an eclectic mixture of living accommodations joins with a bevy of convenience in a figurative, if not literal, "welcome home", as Nashboro Village maintains a continued attraction for indigenous Nashvillians and city newcomers.
