There used to be a time when sewing skills were handed down within families. Then times changed. Both parents started working out of the home and traditional skills like sewing were almost forsaken. Thankfully, today we have the Internet and many enterprising sewing masters are freely sharing their wisdom on their blogs. Here are a few of the best sewing blogs online:
Sew, Mama, Sew! (http://sewmamasew.com) This is a great resource for learning how to sew or how to broaden your skills. Mothers share their expertise on crafting items for the home, for the family and for the community. Pattern reviews are also featured, allowing novices to find out which patterns will suit them the best before buying them.
Make It and Love It (http://makeitandloveit.blogspot.com) This blog was created by Ashley, a mom who wanted to find frugal ways to make cute things for her family. Many of her entries are about repurposing, that is, using what you already have to make things that you can use for other purposes. For those of us who are looking to make stylish things and still save money, this blog is a gold mine!
The Long Thread (http://thelongthread.com) The Long Thread is a handmade craft blog that features, among other things, many sewing projects for the family and home, along with tips and techniques to improve your sewing skills. One of the best features of the blog is the "Long List of Crafty Links". This list of over 100 links features more than 40 sewing blogs and sites, along with brief descriptions of what you can find at each one.
You SEW Girl (http://nicolemdesign.blogspot.com/) Here is a blog that presents sewing as something we can all do. Nikki, the blog's creator, is very honest about her sewing insecurities and shows readers how to sew nice things without having to be perfect at it. She makes a wide range of items and offers free step-by-step tutorials so we can all make them too!
One Pretty Thing (http://www.oneprettything.com) If you want to skip searching for every good sewing blog out there, bookmark this one site and you'll be covered! Rachel, the creator, compiles a list of the best sewing (and crafting) projects around the Internet every day. You can find tutorials, sew-alongs, and even giveaways from browsing this site! It's also a good way to find out about new sewing blogs that you might want to follow.
Whether you've been sewing for years or you've just seen a sewing machine for the first time, checking out the above blogs can give you information and, more importantly, inspiration.
