The reason humanity is so obsessed with the possibility of the Apocalypse is simple. If you step back for a moment and ponder the very nature of humanity, it becomes clear that we expect more from our selves than what the current World Order is providing or will allow. We spend such a vast amount of energy thinking about our Final Days, wondering how, and speculating when, simply because we know we need to be put in check soon, or we will destroy more than we can imagine and more than the universe can afford. And so we obsess about the End Of Days because we want something to put us in our place, because we internally want the Apocalypse to come.
Since the beginning of recorded history humanity has sensed that there was some higher authority than themselves that was really running the show. And this being always has the power to punish or reward us, based on what we choose to do. Each culture has their own variation of who or what this higher authority is, whether it is a single, all powerful deity, or a group of entities, divine beings such as gods and goddesses, or even the sprites and spirits of nature. These Deities personify the characteristics that are valued by the peoples who worship them, serving as symbols of what is worth while. And although the religions may vary, what humanity sees as noble and desirable to the divine is strikingly similar in the majority of cultures. It is here that we find proof that we as a species feel an innate responsibility to respect the boundaries of right and wrong, simply because we can tell the difference. Whether or not there really is some entity watching us is irrelevant, since it is nearly accepted as a fact that our sense of right and wrong calls upon us to live up to our potential for compassion and understanding, begs us to exist in harmony with the laws of the universe, and drives us to strive for self awareness, so we may use our will to enhance that which is pure and timelessly honest. We instinctively value virtue because we are created to display it. We all, on differing levels, want to do justice to our consciousness by using our free will to chose faith over fear, tolerance over violence, and forgiveness over revenge. Today, nearly all of us realize that bad things are born when we disregard this duty. It is from this innate understanding that we answer to something greater than ourselves, even if it is nothing more than our own conscious, that our anticipation of apocalypse comes from.
First, let us
