How doing what you love can increase your motivation.
We are usually motivated when doing things that we love doing. We enjoy having fun, so it motivates us to go out more. We enjoy eating so it motivates us to go to restaurants for good food. We enjoy being in love so it motivates us to follow our hearts. If you enjoy your work, it will motivate you to work harder and even to go that extra mile. We spend most of our daily awake time at work, so why should we not enjoy what we do.
Doing what you love not only increases your motivation, but it could increase your productivity at work thus possibly increasing turnover in business or improve on your general opinion of life.
[1]Pike Place Fish Market is a prime example of this. In 1986, the owner of the Pike Place Fish Market, John Yokoyama, employed the services of a consultant from bizFutures Consultants. The aim of this was to assist with the improvement of the attitudes of the staff in making the environment more pleasant to work in. Changing the atmosphere at work and the attitudes of the staff, created a fun environment for the people to work in. There is a time and a place for everything. Work hard and play hard, in some instances it is not appropriate to do both of these things at the same time, all depending on the type of business. It is however a known fact that if people are happy in their working environment, it will increase their productivity. They will also want to do more than what is required of them.
It is always a good idea to not think of your staff as just another number, but to think of them as people. Without your staff doing the work, you do not have a business. Take the time to get to know your staff, have social events, team building exercises or do motivational talks or presentations. This always gives the staff the impression that you appreciate and value their efforts. [2]bizFutures achieved this by following their principals and using a sensible approach on how to deal with business and their people. Pike Place Fish Market have achieved new heights ever since bizFutures came on board, they have become more and more popular and business has grown from strength to strength, not using expensive marketing or advertising, only by motivating their staff to love what they do.
