They've eliminated the Super Size menu, added salads, grilled chicken sandwiches, and started a campaign to urge customers to adopt active lifestyles, but McDonalds is still striving to benefit the health of their customers.
Even with the recent advances, McDonalds still has numerous claims of causing increased obesity and other health problems, according to ym.com.
In an attempt to get rid of all the criticism, McDonald's has decided to do the once unthinkable: Put nutritional information directly on the wrappers of each and every item distributed.
These wrappers will reveal to customers exactly how many fat grams, calories, carbohydrates, protein, and sodium are in their meal, according to McDonalds.com
"Even with all that info, it won't stop me from eating McDonalds all the time. I love McDonalds way too much," sophomore Kayleigh Nelson said.
The new packaging will begin in North America in the first half of the year 2006. By winter of 2006, over 20,000 McDonalds restaurants in North America will display the new wrappers, according to a McDonalds Corporation press release.
The wrappers will debut during the 2006 winter Olympics, taking place in Torino, Italy in February.
"Customers are coming to McDonald's in record numbers, and we take their trust in our Brand very seriously. That's why we want them to have easy-to-understand nutrition information about our great-tasting food and wide range of menu options. We are putting the information customers need literally into their hands," Jim Skinner, McDonald's Chief Executive Officer told McDonalds.com.
"I don't really eat McDonalds that much, so when I do, I don't really care what's in it," junior Meaghan Wahlert said.
The information will be displayed in a way that converts scientific information into a customer-friendly review of a product's nutrition value and how it relates to daily nutrient recommendations.
The information will be sorted into bar charts and icons. The icons will represent the five elements that experts agree are most important to consumer understanding of nutrition calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates and sodium.
