Asthma is a disease of the lungs that can cause the sufferer to experience an inability to breath. This is caused by two main causes, these being inflammation of the lungs and constriction of the airways. There are many causes of asthma symptoms, but the most common of these causes is allergic reactions. Asthma that is triggered by allergies can be easily controlled, however, and it all starts with the home environment.
Creating a safe environment for an asthmatic is to create a clean environment. Many of the triggers responsible for asthma can be found in the home. Common dust is a common cause of asthma symptoms, as are many molds mildews. So, keeping your house clean is one of the best ways to prevent asthma symptoms. So, daily cleaning of the house is mandatory, because small amounts of dust does less harm than allowing the dust to accumulate in the house. Also, cleaning with a dust trapping chemical, such as pledge or the like, is a good idea because it will trap the dust and not allow the allergens to just populate the air that you breath. Also, while cleaning, it is good to get a mask to prevent what dust you do stir up to enter your airways, thus further exacerbating your symptoms. While purchasing your dusting chemical, it is good to look for the brands that are hypoallergenic.
The home of an asthmatic should be kept free of such things as scented candles and incense. Incense is actually scented smoke, and adding smoke to the air can cause asthma symptoms. As far as the candles are concerned, some odors are strong enough to produce asthma symptoms in an asthmatic. There are many asthmatics that can not even walk down the scented candle isle in a store without asthma symptoms becoming prevalent. So, keeping the asthmatic free from scented candles and incense is a great way to ward off asthma symptoms.
Finally, keeping the asthmatic away from known triggers is a good idea. Any asthmatic should already know what triggers his own symptoms. Therefore, once you know what causes your symptoms, you will know what to avoid having in your house. If you are allergic to certain plants, then it would be unwise to have them in your house. Avoiding the triggers is what needs to be done for the asthmatic to live a healthy and happy home life. Use your common sense and the knowledge that you have acquired in your time with the disease to eliminate the triggers from your home.
