Poetry: Thank you, Dad

Though there has been trouble, and pain, and sorrow,
As we doubted in life for the coming tomorrow,
There has also been a great laughter and joy,
With a dad, and a girl, and an iridescent boy

Years did pass with us apart,
A decision made by foolish heart
But we are all together now,
The result of which is seen in Tao

And for the time I've been with you,
I've known of love and life anew
And though I may just be a dame,
I want to help you feel the same

The things which I learned that I must now know,
And the lessons bestowed as I continued to grow
The wake-up calls when I was sick in the night,
The comforting words when I was stricken by fright

All of these means that were given by you,
To the daughter with the despondent view
Have all come forth to help me be,
A woman of courage, happy and free

I want to remind you on this special day,
That you have helped me become this way
And though at times we may disagree,
The strength of our bond always will be

No matter what problems in the future we face,
Together we can solve them and work at our pace
So, to this father, who I am so fond of,
I have written to you this poem with love
