Poetry: Autumn

by Katley Demetria Brown

Autumn Morning

A chilly breeze
woke me today
reminding me of summer's end
and long nights to come

A sun brilliant
but not warm
shines bright in a cerulean sky
autumn's frost is not far behind

I take a bucket of sand
and bury the past
mourning long hot days
and nighttime cricket songs

And longingly remember
picnics, festivals
days spent at the beach
and sadly exchange them

For school books,

colorful leaves,

jackets, sweatshirts

and yard work.
