Kids today are bombarded with technology from the time they are born. They have knowledge to everything via the Internet. With more information at their fingertips they become subjected to topics they are not mature enough to handle. Any of us who have children growing up in this generation have had the embarrassment of having to explain to a young child, while they were looking up cheat codes for their gaming etcetera, why porn websites began popping up. It is hard to believe with such technology at our hands, that we cannot come up with better ways to help protect our children from these kinds of invasions.
Along with that information comes the end of innocence. It can be paralleled to the story of The Garden of Eden. Yes they had wisdom when they took of the tree of life, but they also immediately lost their innocence, which is why they realized they were naked all of a sudden.
Children used to have to use their imaginations when they to played, before all of these technological gadgets were invented. Remember hide and go seek? Not only did this stimulate the mind because you had to be creative, due to the short time involved in hiding, one would have to shove themselves into these unbelievable positions, which also had a positive physical affect. You were always moving, whether you were the one hiding or seeking.
Nowadays children are either on their iPod, mp3 player, texting, looking up their my space or face book account, and let's not forget about these violent video games out there which teach our kids immorality, hate and violence. Games like; Grand Theft Auto, where they teach your children how to steal a vehicle, or fighting games, where blood is spewed every few seconds, the wrestling games which show constant violence including men being violent towards women. After researching the gaming market you are hard pressed, as a parent, to find one video game that does not contain some form of violence. There are a few, but they are usually just heavily marketed to very young children.
Is it a wonder that children are growing up faster while living through this technological revolution? They are also growing up with no parents at home when they come home from school. Many parents have to both work now to make ends meet. Children are left alone now more than any other time in our history. When everything adds up you have many lonely children who rely on getting their information, support, and guidance, from their computer or some other form of media
One day we will find out how well this has worked as we see our children grow and become the next adult generation. Like all generations one can only hope that we look back and realize what went right and what went wrong. Hopefully, we will correct our mistakes and take advantage of our successes.
