When people think of Valentine's Day they think of flowers, candy and jewelry, but lets take a look at what it really means. Valentine's Day in North America means to celebrate the one you love. If you want to commercialize your love then you can give gifts, but if you want to make it meaningful then you need to make it personal to the person.

There isn't an ideal Valentine's Day gift for women; you can't generalize an entire gender with a couple of gift ideas. Each woman is different and unique and it is up to the person who is giving the gift to find the item that best fits that woman.

For some women, they would prefer you to donate to a charity in their name, or to buy them a special gift that they having been asking for. But for some women, they would love nothing more than to spend a quiet evening with the person they love. Some men come home and spend their time doing other things, like computer time, watching television, playing games or tinkering in the garage, instead of spending time with their significant other. If you are this type of man, then the best gift you could give would be your time. Plan a romantic dinner together, watch a movie, go for a walk, but ultimately spend time together. If you choose the romantic dinner together then go to her favorite restaurant not yours. If you are going to the movies then let her choose the movie, while you might prefer the chick flick, she might enjoy an action movie, it is always possible. If it is cold out, you might not be too romantic to take a stroll on the beach with snow falling around you. Most of all relax and enjoy this time with your significant other, it can be fun for both of you.

Most women love flowers, but if you don't want to pay the high price tag for roses, there are quite a few other types of flowers available and your significant other might prefer a tulip or daisies over a rose. If she does love roses, then buy her a single red rose and take the time to give it to her romantically, like across her plate at dinner or if you are picking her up, when she answers the door present it to her. Now this doesn't mean thrust it at her, but you could give it to her with a kiss on the cheek. Something sweet and loving is what you are ultimately looking for, something that she won't expect but will still enjoy. Another way to give her roses would to be to buy her a rose bush so that she could have roses all summer long. Think outside the box and you will be able to find some wonderful ideas for
