The true cost of crime to society

There are many different kinds of crimes that are committed by many different kinds of criminals. As such, the behavior of those criminals cost the honest people within the United States of America tens of billions of dollars each year. One example is that if you purchase auto insurance, a good percentage of your yearly premium is the result of auto theft and those who deliberately cause vehicle accidents, which we all know as being "insurance fraud."

As a matter of fact, the high costs for other types of personal property insurance is also due to the activity of criminals. Keep in mind that an ideal society is one that does not contain criminals. But you and I both know that criminals are everywhere. As such, you too are a victim of such crimes, just because you are a member of the society, as is every other person.

As luck would have it, the cost of law enforcement increases with the growing percentage of criminals within the society. More police people are required to bring criminals to justice. More judges are required to allow the jury process to assess the guilt of such criminals and more prisons are required to isolate such criminals from our society.

Every person who owns or rents Real Property pays a portion of the cost of the justice system. Additionally, a portion of your Federal, State and Local income taxes are allocated for the protection of every citizen within the United States of America. It should go without saying that those criminals who do not pay such taxes is also an added cost for those who do pay their fair share of those taxes.

It is sad but true that: "One person's gain is another person's loss." That much is as true today as it has ever been. As such, you become an indirect victim of the criminal activity of a whole lot of criminals that have not been brought to justice and seek to profit from simply taking whatever they want.

Therefore, you should report the behavior of people who you believe might be criminals. Such people are illegal aliens, members of violent street gangs and those people who are strangers within your neighborhood. You better believe that the crimes being committed by all of those people most certainly cost you money that can be better spent for other purposes.

It is true that you might never be robbed on the street or within your own home but it is certainly true that the losses of other people is also your loss, in regard to those above issues. How truly safe are you these days?
