How could a loving God send people to hell

by Maureen Leung

In the beginning of time when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, death came into the world through sin. Death also came to all people due to our ancestors' disobedience (Romans 12: 12). We were separate from God, but God decided that He did not want us to separate from Him because He loved and still loves us so much. Therefore, He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, on earth to die for our sin in order to break the separation between God and us or to have eternal life (John 3:16).

According to the scriptures, God does not send people to hell even though He can, but instead, He wants to send them to heaven and be with Him forever. He gives people the freedom of choice to choose. He does not force people to believe and commit their lives to Him because God does not want them to be like robots. In addition, He also give people time to either believe in Him or not, repent their sin or not, and ask Him for forgiveness or not. People who believe in God and ask Him for forgiveness, He will give that person the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of sin (Luke 2:12), eternal life, I believe.

On the other hand, those who do not believe in God will perish or be condemned (John 3: 18). Why? According to the Bible, God created human beings in His own image and let them rule over everything on earth (Genesis 1: 27-28). I believe that human beings were created to be agents on earth under God's rules. Imagine that God is like the president and human beings are here on earth to do what He wants them to do and to obey His rules even though He gives them free choice to decide to obey His commands, laws, or rules, or not. If some people disobey God, they have to accept the consequences for disobeying His laws or rules.

The concept of facing the consequences for disobeying God's laws, commands, or rules is like soldiers who disobey the rules or orders will have to accept the consequences, right? Also, people who disobey one of the laws on earth, such as murdering someone, they have to face the consequences when police catch them.

God does not send people to hell, but He has to follow the laws and rules that He had created. He is also the judge, not just the ruler in heaven and on earth.
