Assessing the consequences of early fatherhood requires that we take a look at the evidence around us. There have been few studies about how young men becoming fathers effects them and society, as most information gained centers around females, rather than their male counterparts.
There are certain consequences though, which are observable, and show us that the odds are stacked against young fathers when it comes the following factors, and that the effects are far reaching, rather than ending with the young men involved.
# Education
# Society and Economics
# Advancement
# Emotional Preparation
# Material Preparation
# Relationships
# Education
When a youth fathers a child before he has completed his education, he is unlikely to continue in the education system. He will need to find a job and provide material necessities in order to care for his offspring. Young men who may have otherwise become well educated and established a career, may end up employed in low paid jobs as unskilled labour.
# Society and Economics
Youths may not always be able to provide enough money to support their family, and as a result may lean heavily on the government and society to fill in the economic gaps of their budget. Living on the breadline can mean that the father and his family acquire a low financial status.
# Advancement
Many young fathers find it hard to climb up the social ladder or to advance their economic position. This means that the picture getting brighter for them is less likely than it probably would have been had they not become fathers at such an early age. As they are less able to become educated, they usually can't secure employment which lets them improve their lot.
# Emotional Preparation
The implication of early parenthood for a young man is that he will be in a position beyond his natural emotional capabilities. Caring for a child is as hard on the emotions as it is on the purse for a young person who is unprepared. This lack of ability may have a negative effect on the emotional development of their child.
# Material Preparation
Most young men who become fathers do so through a lack of planning in the first place. The preparation to follow on the material side will be dependent on the fathers capabilities. As mentioned previously help is often provided by society, although this may be minimal, and mean that the child enters a poor economic background and has fewer choices available to them or means of advancing from the position that they are placed in.
