Here at Helium, there are a plethora of ways to make some extra money. All include writing quality articles about topics you are passionate about. At Helium, consistent quality is first and foremost, as you'll be able to see by the various rating systems in place to track quality in all subjects.

Helium factors in three different attributes when paying writers:

Article Quality: The top ranked articles are often the ones that are well-written. Make sure your article has a nice flow to it and the spelling and punctuation are correct. As your peers vote on which article is the the top article in the title, nothing can kill a quality article quicker than poor grammar.

Advertiser Interest: Some titles may recieve more interest from advertisers than others. These subjects will naturally drive more traffic to your articles. These are usually competitive, well-known titles and subjects.

Traffic: Last but not least is the amount of traffic, or visitors, your articles generate. This is the big picture, and is how you earn money in the long run. The more people that view your articles, the more money you make.

One of the easiest ways to make money is just write. Helium pays it's writers on a "per click" basis, so the more traffic your article gets, the more money you make! When you first sign up, Helium will send you a "welcome email" with a link to write your first article. Click this link and you'll make $5.00 for writing your first article, whatever you want to write about, so long as it's within 30 days from the time you signed up.

As you progress your writing on Helium, your articles will be ranked against all other articles under the title you wrote for through a rating process that all writers on the site take part in. This rating process is key to making money quickly. To start raking in the profits as quickly as you can, you need four articles on the site (doesn't matter what position they are ranked in the title they're under), and you need to rate at least 10 articles from other writers in the first 30 days, with a rating score of 75% or better (this will get you your first Rating Star). Once you've done these two things, get the word out about your writing. Social networking tools like Facebook and Myspace work wonders! If you have a personal website or blog up somewhere, don't be afraid to put your article links up there to drive traffic as well.
