Television show reviews: House M.D.

"House" is still riveting and purely entertaining. In some ways predictable, such as Foreman taking over and being the pompous ass we all expected him to be, to House coming back to his job, which we all know will happen next, it still manages to capture our complete attention.

For a guy as cantankerous and rude as House is, it's a wonder we love him at all and yet, as each season unfolds, we find ourselves looking forward to the measly few episodes we are treated to before they pull him out of our lives for a few more months, wondering who will be left to clean up his next mess. The brilliance of leaving the original team in the background while House learns to work with his new team was just pure genius. Understanding the psyche of the average television addicted fan, they knew that the interaction of the characters and the chemistry between them is what makes us keep coming back.

Will Cuddy end up with House and will Foreman stay with thirteen? Who knows what this cast of characters will do, for every road in this adventure is twisted. Furthermore, House and Wilson living together? Poor Wilson has been a victim of circumstance throughout this entire escapade, trying with every ounce of his being to escape the hold that House seems to have on him. We get the feeling he cares deeply for House as he tries mightily to keep him on an even keel, but after all, Wilson is a doctor, so maybe there is a lot of sympathy being played out here.

One gets the feeling that House would love to be able to give in to his heart just once in a while and really care about his fellow workers and friends but as fans of the show, would we love this House? I think not. His appeal is largely due to the fact that he is rude, uncaring, detached, and selfish yet smart, talented and confident.

Deep down, we all know the reason we keep watching with anxious anticipation is that we all know House really does care. Whatever demons in his past are preventing him from being able to display feelings of affection and caring, keep him held a prisoner of his own making. Refusing to seek psychological help has kept him from making any breakthroughs, though with this last detox, he had seemed to be making some progress. But alas, House would not be House if it were House with no Vicodin, now would it?
