I do believe the federal government should bail out student loan holders, especially those students who have been scammed by art schools and loan corporations, not to be named.
My background is that I am currently paying off my student loans. I was at $30,000 and it has gone down to $21,000. I have a long way to go. I had been going to college for about 10 years because of an illness I have, it took me longer. Right now I do not have a job, but I do receive supplemental monies. After I pay my bills I usually have only $200 for myself for the month. I actually pay $300-$400 a month for my loans.
Though I do receive monthly assistance I still live with my parents and cannot afford to move out. I am still trying to find a job. But the problem I have currently with student loans is not because of my college tuition and finish paying for it. Because I could not find a job at the moment, I actually decided to go back to school to pursue a dream to get into the fashion industry. I will not name the school, but I went to 2 classes there, until of course I researched them on the Internet.
After finding student complaints online, I decided to withdrawal from the school. I went to the school and found out they had a loan program with a very well known private loan corporation. I then found out that each unit I had taken cost $483 each and I took 6 units. When I left they said I didn't owe the school in anyway, but I did have to pay about $4,800 for 2 classes to a very well known private corporation loan program. I was scammed. This is why I believe the government should help out students.
I do own up to my college degree loans, but from the art school is just ridiculous. In closing, I would like to say to students, research your schools first. To the government I would say, students all across the board are getting scammed, and getting put into debt. We need help. I was just a student trying to make it in the world, and trying to follow what I thought my talent was. This is devastating. I would hope that the goverment would see that this is an important issue and help fix it.
