After the long wait, Palm Pre's WebOS 1.2 has finally been released. Below are the enhancements brought about by the WebOS 1.2 update:
Photos- Palm Pre now supports .BMP and .PNG files as attached or saved document. Though we have been waiting for the Palm Pre to be able to take videos like the other 'dumbphones' can, Precentral.net has already had a buzz about somebody being able to program the phone to take videos in a unrefined format; this goes to show some positive signs to our wait.
Web - Now, we can already download files from the web whether via EVDO or WiFi and regardless of the format. Supported downloaded files can be opened and played but for non-supported ones, we can at least save them to the phone's memory so we can open them through other programs that support them. Bookmarks that are saved on the Pre are already backed up to the Palm Profile so we won't have to re-add them when we do a Partial or Full Erase.
Email - For Exchange active sync accounts, the drafts folder can already synch up with the Pre. We can now do a filter search of emails by just typing a keyword while on the mail list view. VCard can now be sent/received/saved as an email attachment.
Universal Search- The Pre now has the capability to search submenus of applications. So if you want to know where the Brightness setting is, if you type 'brightness', it shows you the Screen and Lock application that has the brightness setting.
App Catalog- It will display your installed applications and the other applications which have updates available.
Messaging- We can now copy and paste texts from the Web and paste them to a messaging conversation or perhaps to a composed email. For Messaging it only has copy all option for conversations.
LinkedIN Contacts- LinkedIN is a social networking site for business oriented individuals where they can invite and connect with people of the same profession or interest. It, however, only supports pull down of information from the server to the Pre so changes that you make on your pre never gets updated on LinkedIN's server. The Pre also does not include contacts that are 2nd or 3rd connections away.
Data Off - The Pre already has an option to turn off data connection to your network for those who don't want to be charged for data connection. This is only beneficial to customers of networks with limited data plans since Sprint has unlimited data plan for Pre customers.
