How to play YoVille on Facebook

by Lorie Kistler

Created on: September 29, 2009

Yoville is an interactive world run by Zynga. To begin playing Yoville, you must first personalize your avatar and give your avatar a name. After you have chosen your avatar, you begin playing Yoville in your apartment. Your apartment is minimally-furnished and consists of a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. When you leave your apartment by clicking on the arrow at the door of your living room, you step into the condo lobby. Here you will see the apartment doors of your friends on Facebook.

Getting Coins

To purchase items for your apartment, food to energize your avatar, clothes, and gifts, you need coins. There are several different ways to earn coins on Yoville. First, Zynga allows you to buy coins. Look for the Buy Coins icon at the top of your screen. Clicking that icon will take you to a page that will allow you to buy coins.

Of course, there are other ways to earn coins without spending money. Every day, you are allowed 20 friend visits. You earn coins by visiting your friends and performing different tasks. These tasks include writing a message, gifting an item, dancing, kissing, and fighting (throwing a water balloon). You are only given coins for performing one of those tasks on each of your friends per day, so you need to have at least 20 friends to maximize this option. You can earn up to 400 coins a day and 200 experience points (learn more about that later) by visiting your friends.

You can also play a game with people that you encounter in the game. They do not have to be your friends to play. Simply click on their avatar and choose Play a game on the pop up menu. You can choose between Paper/Rock/Scissors or Tic Tac Toe. For winning a game, you get 10 coins and 5 experience points. You are allowed to earn up to 200 coins per day by playing games with other Yoville players.

The Sweets Factory is where everyone goes to work. You choose a recipe, mix the ingredients, and put them in the oven. Depending on which recipe you chose, you have to come back at the end of the waiting period (4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 2 days, or 3 days) to take the items out of the oven. When you do, you earn coins. Be careful, though- you have to pay for the ingredients, and if you don't come back in time to get your items out of the oven, they will burn and you won't collect any coins.

There are two other options for earning coins: fishing and racing. You compete with two other avatars to win the race or catch the most fish. You can earn
