Puglia is a beautiful region in southeastern Italy and also called the boot heel of this wonderful country in Europe. It borders the Adriatic Sea in the east and the Ionic Sea in the south east and is the only region in Italy which has so much sea and surrounded by eighty hundred kilometers of coast. The splendid coast line and the presence of art towns and beautiful monuments are so astonishing that every tourist will certainly admire the different places in Puglia.
The clear blue sea in Puglia is breathtaking and you will be amazed to see the bright colors and the reflecting sun in the sea during a sunset. People have different reasons to visit Puglia and the diversification of attractions for different kinds of interests which this beautiful region in Italy has to offer is maybe the reason why nobody knows the real reason which makes Puglia unique for most everyone.
The "Trulli" have always been one of the most popular tourist spots of Puglia. It is the only place in the world where you can find these buildings which are completely made from stone and have a cone-shaped roof. The pinnacle of these buildings are mostly white washed and grey and formed by three overlaid rocks. Alberobello is the city where you can visit a complex of about 1400 trulli and is now recognized by the Unesco as a world inheritance city.
Lecce can be considered as an architectural jewel of Puglia. It is also called "the Florence of the South" because this city has architectural buildings which can be compared with these in Florence. This city is located between the Adriatic and Ionic Sea. Most of the historical buildings in Lecce are built in the Lecce Baroque style and Piazza Duomo is the place to be for visiting the highlights of this city. You can visit there the Duomo (Cathedral of the Madonna Assunta) with its charming bell tower, the Bishops Palace and Palazzo del Seminary. The Duomo was built between 1144 and 1230 by Giuseppo Zimbola and he constructed also the bell tower which has a height of 68 metres.
Lecce has many beautiful buildings and monuments and probably is Santa Croce the most famous Baroque monument in this city. This church is built between 1549 and 1689 and the faade is really impressive through its decoration with animals, vegetables and grotesque figurines. Walking in the center of Lecce is really a discovering of many historical monuments and buildings.
