There are as many different fish in the sea, as there are ways to catch them. From lures to live bait, from jigging to trolling, the fishing technique you use will be greatly influenced by the region you are fishing in. The most basic separation when looking at fishing regions is whether you are fishing in salt water, or fresh water. The species of fish will vary greatly depending on the type of water they live in. What they eat, what depth they swim at, and when they feed may also change according to their region. It is important to know what you are fishing for when you decide on what fishing technique to use.

SALT WATER FISHING

Salt water fishing can be broken down into two sub groups. Shoreline fishing, or shallow sea fishing, and open ocean fishing, or deep sea fishing. Shallow sea fishing can be a difficult task since you have to deal with crashing waves and varying tide levels. But with a little knowledge, you can make a shallow sea fishing trip worthwhile.

* Try to fish where the land cuts out into the sea. Shore points can give access to deeper water. Also these shore points make it easier for vegetation to get stuck and grow, which draws larger crowds of fish.
* Fish near merging waters. Rivers and streams often flow into the ocean. Many small creatures live in these areas which give food to fish. You can also try some interesting bait here, like shrimp, minnows, frogs, and crabs.
* Fishing by debris is also a good way to fish in shallow seas. Patches of seaweed that float in the ocean give harbor to smaller fish which attracts bigger fish.

Deep sea fishing is an entirely different beast. Deep sea fishing often require special equipment. Chartering a boat will most often get you the equipment, the bait, an experienced captain, and most importantly, a ride to and from shore.

* Most deep sea fishing is done by trolling. Trolling works by throwing your line out with a lure on it behind the boat. The boat drives at a constant speed as your lure trolls behind it.
* Bottom fishing is another common method of deep sea fishing. Like the name implies, bottom fishing sends your lure deep into the ocean waiting for the next big fish to come along.
* Using a fish finder can help you determine where the fish are, which can help you to decide what technique to use.

FRESH WATER FISHING

There are various techniques to catch fresh water fish, and various places to do so. Fishing inland gives you a wide variety of options. You can fish on lakes, streams, rivers,
