An overview of languages spoken in Pakistan

Pakistan as we know is not known to be a well progressed and developed country and there is no second thought about the fact that it has several issues to deal with. Some may not want to live in it because of poor education system, unhealthy environment or an increase in security issues. There are many who want to go abroad just because they are fed up of load shedding. It's a fact that the entire system is corrupt and there is minimal hope that the government will ever think of solving these issues. Yet, I call this nation as "great" because God knew Pakistan will require something to count on and something to keep on moving and so He blessed Pakistan with a culture so simple and rich at the same time that it holds the entire load of it on its own.

A lot of people have come to reside in this multi-cultural land from all over the world. With them they have brought different customs and languages to the country. A number of languages are thus spoken in Pakistan, in which eight percent of the Pakistani population contributes to Urdu; forty-four percent contributes to Punjabi, fourteen percent to Sindhi, four percent to Baluchi, fifteen percent to Pashto, eleven percent to Seraiki, and four percent of the population contributes to other languages (Marathi, Hindko etc).

* English

As everyone knows English is a widely accepted language all over the world. It is the power in helping one conquer the employment-based domains. Without English it is extremely difficult now to get employed in the state dominated jobs and the private sector in Pakistan. Today around three percent of the Pakistani population can speak the language; credit can be given to the successive governments which have made English a compulsory subject in the school curriculum.

In underdeveloped countries specially the ones in South Asia, a person who can speak and write English well is considered superior to those who can't. English has always been dominant in this region mostly due to its importance and acceptance worldwide and also because it is the only way to compete in the international market but one should not forget the fact that English has always played a tremendous role in bringing different cultures together and letting the world have a language for all to communicate with besides their own. There are many who don't appreciate its existence in their culture and consider it as an attack on their own language & culture. Languages should not be treated as if they belong to one nation
