There are people who preferred to be alone than to have somebody living with in the room. But there are many who really want to have someone to share the burden of paying the bills and rent so then, they are force to find someone to live with them to share the expenses.

As far as I know, these are some of the good and bad aspects of having roommates.

Let's start from the good ones.

1. Having a roommate would lessen our expenses for the rent and other bills because we have someone to share with. Even food expenses, we can share it with our roommates. We can also share the expense of buying appliances that we can use in the house. This is one of the good things of having a roommate. You will not be burdened of spending everything that you need because you have someone to share with.

2. Having a roommate would help us to alleviate loneliness of being alone. There is somebody to share our problems and disappointments in life. There is someone to talk to when we needed it. Someone to inspire us when we are down. This is another good thing of having a roommate.

3. Another good thing of having a roommate is that, you have someone to share the work at home, like cleaning, cooking,washing, arranging, etc. It is tiresome to do everything at home but if you have someone to share the work, it will lighten your load.

4. There is someone to care for you when you are sick or ill. It is hard to be alone when you don't feel good. If you have roommate, there is somebody to look after you. There is somebody who can help you in case of emergency.

The bad aspects of having roommates.

1. You have no privacy in the house. There are people who are very private. They don't want to be disturbed in anything that they do. Even if how good your roommate will be, there comes a time that you don't feel comfortable in their presence. There are times that you want to be alone. You want a private time but that would be hard when you share a room with somebody. You want to be alone doing your own stuff but you can't do it because there is somebody with you. This situation is really hard.

2. When the roommate you have is not on time in giving his share for the rent or other expenses, this would be a problem that sometimes cause conflict between you and your roommate. It is good to choose a roommate who is responsible in everything. Situation like this is really stressful.

3. When a roommate is not respectful of your private things, it is hard. I myself do not want my things to be used by anybody. I want people to respect my belongings. There are roommates who don't know how to respect others/ properties. They will use it like their own. I don;t like that. This is the common thing that happened when you share someone in the room. The tendency is your things are common to both of you. Some roommate just used your things without asking permission. This is one of the bad aspects.

4. Lazy roommate. Don't help in the housework, don't clean, cook and wash plates. Ah! that is tough. I don;t like to have a lazy roommate. Some roommates will just eat when they get home, not helping even in preparing food.

5. Hard to deal with roommates. Easily get mad, inconsiderate, and tactless. Oh this is hard when you have this kind of roommate. It's better to live alone, lonely and tired than to have somebody with you who is hard to deal with. It is unhealthy emotionally when your roommate is hard to deal with.

These are the common good and bad aspects of having a roommate. It is important to choose whom we live with.
