Lessons from a nearby Tree
Nowadays we have televisions, computers, radios, opinions from other human beings and background noise surrounding our intrinsic need for a peaceful setting, for a peaceful me. Those instruments of science and progress many times, separate us from nature. It is as if we are separated, far away from our home. Nature is our home. We can have a balanced life without TV, but we cannot live in balance without nature.
Nowadays there is a need to break away from the same old routine of sameness without fulfillment. The small things in life can make a tremendous difference in our search for inner peace and balance. We say stop and take time to smell the roses, but when was the last time you have done that? Have you really looked at the sun shining early in the morning with your naked eyes? Have you ever sat comfortably in the grass, not in a bench but in the grass, to become part of the natural landscape to enjoy your time like a kid? Further, have you had the chance to learn something unique from your nearby park? Or better yet, learn something from Mr. Tree, the nearby teacher?
Sensibility is a quality needed for our connection with nature and life. Certainly, it is more than the 8 to 5 pm routine. Our inner beauty, our need for meaning many times lies outside the noise of progress, the world of business and busy-ness. Spirituality becomes a key element for this.
The spiritual path starts with our own search for beauty. That beauty is calming, peaceful, harmonious and delightful to the senses in its purest way. Once we find that beauty, it is time to fill ourselves with teachings to develop our character, our own label which will be our personal trademark in life.
Nature could be a great teacher.
Nature is capable of teaching us valuable lessons as long as we are willing to observe without judgment, without using our own traditions, thoughts, ideas, etc. as point of reference to understand nature.
A tree in a park can teach us so many things about life, if we are willing to observe with a silent mind.
A tree accepts the 4 seasons with equanimity. If a tree could speak, he could tell us so many things Matthias is the name of this talking wise tree. One of the lessons that I learned from Matthias was to lose the fear of change. I was able to understand the value of change as well as my unreasonable attachment to the way things are status quo. Change implies that things will end, but at the same time; the opportunity for a new beginning
