Do people have absolute rights that all governments should protect?

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

These words are taken from the Constitution of the United States of America. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are absolute rights that the government should protect for all of its citizens.

Looking at the first one - Life. The US government has allowed death on a daily basis, in the amount of 3,700. This is the number of abortions performed daily in the United States. That equates to approximately 1.7 million deaths each year. Terry Schiavo had her feeding tube removed in 2005 and subsequently died. This was a court-ordered intervention to end the life of this woman. I would have to say that the US government does not believe that "life" is an absolute, unalienable right.

Liberty is the right or power to do as one pleases, the power of choice, and freedom from restraints. The United States is really in agreement on this one - it appears to be okay to allow illegal aliens to come into this country and do as they please. The US government allows illegal aliens to be free from their own country's restrictions and become a part of the welfare system here.

If a person commits a heinous crime, chances are he will spend years or the rest of his life in jail. Doing what? Eating well, getting a free education, and having all expenses paid. Therefore, the person who commits the murder is exercising his "right" to do as he pleases, while the dead victim's family is left without their loved one.

Happiness has been pursued since the dawn of creation. God, in His infinite wisdom, created man and woman. The couple, believing they could be happier without God, found out that wasn't true then, and it isn't true now. People can be happy in spite of their circumstances or issues in life. As we accumulate more and more "stuff," we wonder why we're still not happy, so we blame the government, our families, and our jobs.

The US government both does, and doesn't, back up this as an absolute right. As long as the government believes it's okay, then they agree with the absolute right to be happy. If the happiness isn't in agreement with government views, then it's not okay.

There are absolute rights that the all governments should protect for their people. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are only three rights. Law-abiding citizens (not illegal aliens) should have these rights. Illegal aliens should be sent back to their own country until (or unless) they come into this country legally.
