Why do people put on weight?

by Mario Carini

Too many people are under the impression that weight loss has a lot to do with reading product labels and cutting down on the amount of food they eat. While these methods do help somewhat, for weight loss to occur, it's necessary to apply the W-5 formula to pinpoint the major reasons for weight gain. Once those reasons are known, weight loss can become effortless.

Of course there are other factors that contribute to weight gain. Lack of exercise, smoking, living in a toxic environment and a life of stress all play their part in whether the proper weight can be maintained or not.

If you really aspire to shedding those pounds and keep them off, applying the W-5 formula will help in your efforts.

The Who you are factor is important. Heredity plays a part, though minor, in whether you will gain weight. If you come from a family of overweight members, you are more disposed to gaining weight. But the family environment can also determine how fat you will become. While there's little that can be done with heredity factors, the habits and methods of eating within the family also determine how heavy you will become. A family that encourages the need to eat is likely to have overweight kids. If yous is a family that demands you eat, hungry or not, you can take steps to change it.

The What of the food you eat. This is the favorite focus of many weight loss plans. It makes sense that the more calories consumed that are not burned off, will translate into extra pounds. What is often eaten is low in nutrition. Today's modern diet lacks fiber and the nutrients so necessary for complete health. In addition, today's processed food comes with a great deal of preservatives and chemicals which the body cannot eliminate completely. That simply adds more fat. By taking a look at the food you eat, you can eliminate those unhealthy foods that are making you fat.

The Why is the reason you eat in the first place. The purpose of food is to provide the body with the fuel it needs to survive. Unfortunately, many people eat because food gives them a sense of comfort, a way to relieve the stresses of life, which food is not meant for. Eating food should be an enjoyable activity and one that requires attention. You can't control what you eat watching an interesting movie. Those who eat for emotional reasons are most at risk for Bulimia, Anorexia Nervosa and other eating disorders. Food is not meant as an escape from reality.

The When you eat is just as important as the why and what you eat. Many eat on the run. Many eat right before going to bed. Many skip breakfast, the most important meal of the day. That results in acid reflux, sleepless nights and many intestinal disorders, including weight gain.

The Where you eat and how often you eat is important. While there's nothing wrong with eating out on special occasions, many fast food, deli and family restaurant cater to a broad base of clients. The food served contains a good deal of sugar, fat, monosodium glutamate and other unwholesome ingredients. They know today's society is fixated on getting a quick meal without much concern for health and provide easily digested foods that are not as healthy as what could be prepared at home. If you eat out frequently, cutting back may be all you need to start shedding pounds.

The How you eat is yet another important factor of weight loss control. Most people eat too much. Their hectic lifestyle doesn't allow the time to pay attention to what is being eaten and how much of it goes into the stomach. Frequent overeating is a major cause of obesity. Attention has to be directed at the food being eaten. Food has to be chewed properly and not gulped down. Good eating habits require patience. But the reward for patience soon shows on the weight scale. Take the time to properly chew food before swallowing it. Saliva helps to neutralize any stomach acids that may back up into the esophagus. But that can't happen if you wold down every bite.

The W-5 formula is not as easy to implement as many weight loss programs. It takes a careful analysis of those specific areas that are causing weight gain. But knowing which of the W-5 factors are causing you to gain weight is the first step to making the changes to get you back into your ideal weight range. It's the only way weight loss can work but the best way to insure that an overweight condition never returns.
