Reflections: Wisdom learned from nature

Nature, it is a part of our lives everyday. You interact with nature, but you do not always see what nature is trying to tell you. You go to work everyday. Sometimes you are irritated because it's raining or the weather is too hot. You stumble over a rock in your driveway or swerve on the road to avoid a squirrel that wandered into your path. We go through life more aggravated by nature than in tune with what nature does for us, what nature can teach us. It's time to listen to nature with more than just our ears. We need to feel it in our souls. If we only took the time to look a little closer to see what God wants to show us through all that he has created. Then we could hear the voice of wisdom within.

The Seasons

Slow down. Life doesn't always have to be so hurried. Nature can teach us many things about the pace of life. We go about our everyday lives in a rush. Speed dial, the express lane, drive through windows, DSL. The fastest products, the shortest lines. It's all about getting it done more quickly, so that we can go on to something else. Nature teaches a different story. Everything in nature suggests a slow and steady pace. From the life cycle of the flowers and trees all the way to the changing of the seasons.

In Ecclesiastes 3:1, Solomon, said to be the wisest man ever to have lived, says, To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. The changes in the seasons should be a lesson to us about slowing down and being more aware of each moment.

Spring

In Spring, life begins anew in the world of nature. Animals are having new babies, adding to their families. The flowers are starting to bud and the leaves are starting to grow again on the trees. The redbuds are blooming and the Tulips are getting ready for Easter. Nature teaches us about newness during the Spring. About life and living. It should be a reminder to us that like the spring each day can be a new start, a new beginning. Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it. Don't dwell on the problems of yesterday, make each day count.

Even if you feel you have a dead end job with no prospects for the future or you feel like life is passing you by, you can make a difference. In nature, the spring is a season of hope. A season of change. How can you make each day, matter? Even the ocean is affected by one small pebble. Make a ripple in somebody's life and see where it might take you. Help that lady who can't get her kids to settle down long enough to get her groceries
