Why shouldn't boys be taught to sew? Some of you may think it will make them a sissy. Some may think that is what they need a woman for. These are just as silly as the question itself is. Boys need to know how to sew just as much as a girl does. It makes them capable of repairing and mending clothing items. If you think about a physician who gives stitches, he has certain sewing skills. You don't think of a Doctor as sissy so why should you think it if a boy sews? In today's world we all need to be multi-talented. It helps us to survive and to stay young mentally. You must continue to learn to keep the brain active.

Sewing can also be a method of stress relief. Boys and men have just as much stress as girls and maybe even more. It also can give you a since of pride to see that you have created something from nothing or to have repaired an article of clothing on your own. My brother had learned to sew when he was young and used that skill to help put him through college. You see, many of the guys at college had no idea how to sew, but because college students don't usually have a lot of extra money to go buy new clothes all the time, had shirts that needed repair or zippers that had busted out and were more than willing to pay a few bucks to have it fixed for them.

To say that someone does or does not need to know how to do anything because of gender alone is ridiculous. We all need to learn to be self sufficient. You never know what skills you may need in life or who if anyone you will have to depend on. You need to be able to count on yourself. In today's world we are too hung up on gender. Gender means nothing other than what sex you are. It does not mean you are more or less capable of doing tasks. There is an entire industry of jobs that are based on sewing. Not only are their seamstresses, but tailors, designers, people who invent machines to make the task of sewing simpler. Saying a boy doesn't need to know how to sew is as ludicrous as saying a girl does not need to know how to protect herself.
